EXTREMELY PRECISE TIMING WITH A LOW-COST REAL-TIME CLOCK IC,

As compared to conventional RTCs with external 32.768k quartz, extremely accurate application timing for maximum-accuracy time stamps is achieved at a minimal cost. Temperature stability is ±5 ppm within the -40° C to +85° C range, which makes a highly accurate absolute time offset of 15 seconds possible over that temperature range. In addition, the Low-Cost RTC1010 is pin-compatible with many different manufacturers

The 400 kHz I²C bus interface makes for easy integration into the application. In addition to numerous calendar functions, the RTC1010 offers an adjustable frequency output that provides a choice of highly accurate output frequencies (CMOS): 32.768kHz, 1,024 kHz or 1 Hz (for pulse-per-second applications). The output frequencies can be used to clock phase-locked loops or to generate other system frequencies. The RTC1010 in its compact 14-pin plastic housing can be operated at supply voltages from 1.6 V to approx. 5.5 V. 3.0 V is typical. At 3 V, the power consumption of the RTC1010 is less than 1.8 µA, making the RTC extremely well suited for battery-operated applications.
